Your Glueless Wig Is Lifting — Here's Why

Glueless wigs are designed for easy, adhesive-free wear. But if yours keeps lifting at the edges, crown, or sides, something isn't quite right. The good news: every cause has a simple fix.

Here are the 7 most common reasons your glueless wig is lifting — and exactly what to do about each one.

1. The Wig Cap Isn't the Right Size

This is the #1 cause of lifting. If your wig cap is too large for your head, there's nothing to hold it snug — it will shift and lift throughout the day.

Fix: Measure your head circumference before buying. Most ARAY wigs have adjustable straps at the back — pull them tighter for a more secure fit. If the wig still feels loose, try a wig grip band underneath.

2. The Adjustable Straps Are Too Loose

Most glueless wigs have 2–3 adjustable hook-and-eye straps at the nape. Many people never adjust them out of the box.

Fix: Tighten the straps at the nape until the wig feels snug but comfortable. You should be able to shake your head without the wig shifting.

3. The Combs Aren't Secured Properly

Glueless wigs typically have 4–6 built-in combs (front, sides, back). If you're not clicking them into your natural hair or braids, the wig has nothing to grip.

Fix: Part your natural hair or braids at each comb position and slide the comb in firmly. For fine or short hair, try bobby pins through the comb teeth for extra grip.

4. Your Scalp or Hairline Is Oily

Natural oils, sweat, or skincare products (especially along the hairline) create a slippery surface that causes even the best-fitting wig to lift.

Fix: Clean your hairline with a cotton pad and 70% isopropyl alcohol before putting on your wig. This removes oil and creates a clean surface for maximum grip — even without glue.

5. The Lace Isn't Melted or Pressed Down

Even without glue, the lace needs to be pressed flat to your skin. If you skip this step, the lace edges will peel up throughout the day.

Fix: After positioning the wig, use a rat tail comb or your fingers to press the lace flat along your hairline. A wig grip band along the perimeter helps hold the lace down without adhesive.

6. The Wig Is Too Heavy for Glueless Wear

Very long wigs (28"–30") or high-density wigs (210%) are heavier — and gravity works against glueless hold. The weight pulls the wig forward and down, causing lifting at the nape and crown.

Fix: For extra-long or high-density styles, use a wig grip band for extra security. Alternatively, use a small amount of got2b Glued Blasting Freeze Spray along the hairline — it washes out easily and holds without full adhesive application.

7. The Wig Is Worn Out

Over time, the elastic band, straps, and combs inside the wig cap lose their tension. An older cap simply can't grip as well as a new one.

Fix: If your wig cap elastic is stretched out, a wig tailor can replace it inexpensively. In the meantime, use a wig grip band as a temporary fix.
